Morgan Evans : The Country And The Coast: Side A Review
by Griff Stevens
Morgan Evans is an Australian-born country star releasing his brand-new EP, The Country and the Coast: Side A, via Warner Music Nashville. The release coincides with him being announced as the headliner of Australia’s biggest country festival, CMC Rocks. Evans also recently shared the official music video for the project’s lead single, “Love Is Real,” which is climbing the US airplay charts after spending nine consecutive weeks at No. 1 at Australian country radio. Produced by Grammy-nominated producer Dan Huff and Jimmy Robbins, The Country And The Coast: Side A is an EP of six songs with Evans surrounded by a full band. Evans explains, “On this record, I wanted to capture the energy of a live band and, through the songs, tell more of my own story. This is Side A, and I consider this ‘The Country’ side, taking influence and inspiration from a lot of the music that, when I discovered it, made me want to spend my life playing music. I’m so proud of this EP, and hopefully, after you play it loud, of course, you’ll have a full heart, a smile on your face, and get to know me a little better at the same time.”
“Love is Real” has an upbeat guitar part that propels the song while Evans’ vocal charms win you over with his allure and tone. The song is filled with outstanding playing by the band and a memorable melody with lyrics that are easy to relate to and understand. Evans shows why he has taken Australia by storm with his pop-country style.
“Sing-Along Drink Along” is a feel-good drinkin’ song with a melody that is made to sing-along with. The acoustic instruments and pedal steel keep the sounds of Country music alive. The track seamlessly switches between sections and has interesting vocal and instrumental elements. Evans’ vocal work is enjoyable throughout, and he clearly sings the lyrics.
The Country And The Coast: Side A is another successful project as Evans continues to build his catalog of strong singing and songwriting. It is nice to hear that even though Evans’ music is evolving, he stays true to himself and his modern country sound.
