Estella Dawn : Vixen Review
By Bea Willis
Estella Dawn is a songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer that is an up-and-coming pop artist. Her vocal style is agile, and her songwriting is built with layers of vocal harmonies, counterpoints, and instrument pads. Since 2020 Dawn has consistently been releasing singles, and in November of 2021, she entered the studio to start her first full-length album, which is due in spring of 2022. “Vixen” is Dawn’s fifth single of 2021 and deals with being comfortable with who you are and learning to celebrate yourself.
The first things you will notice when “Vixen” begins are the abundant use of vocal harmonies and Dawn’s warm sensual vocal tone. The melody is catchy and carries a positive set of lyrics written by Dawn. “I wrote Vixen as a way to shed my own fears around my body and my sexuality. People sexualize me all the time; it’s my body, so why can’t I do the same?” Dawn confesses. She further says, “I’ve come to a place where I no longer want to refine myself into less than I am just to make other people feel more comfortable. As long as you aren’t hurting anyone, there’s no reason to be ashamed of who you want to be. I think it’s important to feel empowered and confident in your skin, manifest good things for yourself, communicate what you need and want, to always maintain personal boundaries, have safe sex; it’s your body and your happiness. Life is too short not to take what you want from it.” Dawn’s lyrics state, “Unchained, Unashamed – It’s crazy how good confidence tastes – Get a little rowdy – Or get out of my way – Get out of my way – Get out of my way.” Combine that with a hip beat and easy on the ears productions, and you have a winner with “Vixen.”
Estella Dawn is a pop vocalist you need to become familiar with. Her singing is impressive in its tone, range, and energy, and her songwriting is filled with beautiful vocal harmonies. Dawn is captivating, building off dancefloor energy and pop melodies, carrying an undeniable allure with each sumptuous note.
