Estella Dawn : I Dare You Review
By: Bea Willis
Estella Dawn is a New Zealand born; Colorado based Pop/Neo-Soul songwriter and multi-instrumentalist that is steadily gaining attention with her beautiful voice. Her EP Dancing Girls was released at the beginning of 2018 to an overwhelming response. She released eight singles by the end of 2019, which all showed an artist that was continually working on her craft. Her songs are created with multiple layers, both vocally and musically. In 2020, Dawn is on track to deliver 12 plus songs and a full-length LP by the end of the year. Earlier this year, she released the Neo-Soul “Cadmium Yellow” (released in January), followed by the “burn the town down” dynamics of “Hallow.” Now she is releasing the attitude heavy anthemic rock of “I Dare You,” released on June 4, 2020.
“I Dare You” starts with an unassuming guitar figure and a slow rock drumbeat. Dawn’s big warm vocals enter and instantly grabs your attention, with both her singing and the lyrics. The song methodically unfolds with layers. The chorus is big and has Dawn singing in her upper register with full backgrounds. Her singing is both sensual and confident, which makes it even more appealing. Her embellishments and growl keep getting more intense. The bridge relaxes for a moment before the build to an impressive vocal display during the ending climax.
Estella Dawn is a hard-working Pop/Neo-Soul songwriter and multi-instrumentalist releasing music that is fresh and needs to be heard by a broad audience. She has talent, songwriting skills, and a beautiful singing voice. She is one to watch!
